Save Yousif’s Life!

Yousif is a bright and intelligent 9-year-old boy battling Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, also known as DMD. This disease is a rare, genetic, and life-threatening condition caused by the absence of dystrophin, a protein essential for muscle strength. Children with DMD gradually lose the ability to walk, lift their arms, breathe independently, and eventually do not survive without medical intervention.

More About Yousif

Yousif is an intelligent and deeply determined 9 year old boy who dreams of living a normal childhood. He loves school more than anything; even on difficult days, he refuses to stay home because he doesn’t want to miss his favourite lessons. He enjoys reading, is quick to learn new things and is known among his teachers for his curiosity and bright spirit. Despite the challenges he faces, Yousif remains hopeful, strong and full of life. He is not defined by his illness, he is a child with dreams, talents, and a beautiful future ahead of him, if given the chance.

What is DMD?

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a rare, genetic, life-threatening condition caused by the absence of dystrophin, a protein essential for muscle strength. It leads to progressive muscle degeneration beginning in early childhood, with most children losing the ability to walk between ages 10 and 12. As the disease advances, it affects the heart and respiratory muscles, becoming increasingly life-threatening, and without intervention, DMD significantly shortens life expectancy. Elevidys gene therapy is the first treatment to target the root cause of DMD by helping the body produce dystrophin.
