The deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan throughout 2021 has contributed to an increase in Afghans seeking protection and asylum abroad.
Throughout the year, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has seen an increased number of Afghans requesting urgent assistance.

Among the most vulnerable Afghan refugee families are female–headed households, the elderly who have lost their caretakers or have existing health issues, and families with members who live with disabilities. UNHCR provides cash assistance to help vulnerable families meet their most urgent needs.
