What Al-Baqi Teaches Us About Community Care

In Canada, community is at the heart of our identity. For Muslims across Canada, our communities are places of unity and belonging.

Yet the destruction of Jannat Al-Baqi reminds us that sacred spaces can disappear – unless communities protect them

Al-Baqi teaches vigilance. It teaches compassion. It teaches responsibility.

Allah (swt) reminds us in the Qur’an:

“The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers…”

Surah Al-Hujurat, Ayah 10

Community care means ensuring no family feels isolated, and no community remains displaced without support.

The Zahra Trust strengthens global Muslim communities by supporting the vulnerable and displaced in areas of need.

Canadian Muslim youth, known for their inclusivity and civic-mindedness, can play a leading role. Fundraising initiatives, awareness campaigns, and collaborative projects can transform remembrance into resilience.

What Al-Baqi teaches us about community care is this: heritage survives when communities stand together.

Care creates continuity.

Care creates connection.

Care creates hope.
