What is special about the month of Dhul Qidah

In the Islamic calendar, certain months carry deeper spiritual meaning.  

Among them is Dhul Qidah, a sacred month that invites believers to pause, reflect, and reconnect with Allah (swt). 

Often overlooked, this month is one of the four sacred months in Islam, a time when peace, restraint, and worship are especially emphasized.

A reminder from the Qur’an

Allah (swt) says in the Holy Qur’an:

“Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve… of which four are sacred.”

Surah At-Tawba, Ayah 36

Dhul Qidah is one of these sacred months, highlighting its importance.

What makes Dhul Qidah special?

The name Dhul Qidah refers to refraining from conflict

Historically, it was a time of peace, allowing people to focus on:

  • Worship and reflection 
  • Preparing for Hajj 
  • Strengthening community ties 

A time connected to Hajj  

Dhul Qidah comes just before Dhul Hijjah, the month of Hajj. Pilgrims would begin their journey during this peaceful time. 

This month is also connected to the preparations for the farewell pilgrimage of the Prophet Muhammad (saww).  

A month to reflect

Dhul Qidah encourages believers to slow down, avoid conflict, and increase acts of worship.
